The opulent masquerade balls of Venice's Carnevale, with their veneer of anonymity and revelry, provided a sinister backdrop for a series of gruesome murders. A killer, dubbed "The Headhunter," stalked the labyrinthine alleyways, preying on unsuspecting victims. The macabre calling card was the removal of the head, and chilling whispers circulated about strange green injections administered before death. Some whispered of a medical experiment gone horribly wrong, others of a deranged psychopath using the Carnevale as a hunting ground, the masks mirroring the killer's own carefully constructed facade. The vibrant colors and joyous atmosphere of the festival were tainted by fear, as the city held its breath, wondering who would be next to fall prey to the Headhunter's twisted game.

Headhunter is the name of this year's costume by my Italian friend Valentino. Valentino comes to the Venice Carnevale every year. He is one of the increasing number of locals who prefer painted faces over full masks and has over the years become more modern in his choice of costumes. Slightly dark side of the Venice Carnevale, but something different.
And as usual, the portraits are just done on the busy streets of Venice and using natural lighting only...
