I have been to the Venice Carnevale every year since 2014. This is my first and biggest, longstanding/ continuation photo project.
The Venice Carnevale, renowned as the world's most beautiful festival, dazzles with its extravagant masked costumes donned by wonderful attendees. Beyond the masks, locals exude charm in their preference for painted faces and historical garb, adding to the festival's allure. Masked revellers primarily hail from neighbouring countries, including France, Belgium, Austria, and Germany, contributing to Carnevale's vibrant cosmopolitan atmosphere.
This is also the series that has been a finalist at HIPA - Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashin Al Matoum International Photography Award 2023 (deemed the world's most prestigious photo contest) and exhibited at Xposure 2024 - the world's biggest photo festival. But of course for this year's contest, so I used photos from this year's Carnevale to give it another fresh breath. I wanted the photos to be like scenes from classic movies, images from a theatrical stage...All these photos are collected in my latest coffee table photo book as well...because during Carnevale, the whole Venice truly becomes a real life theatrical stage, and many of these costumes carry deep perspectives...
Every costume is a masterpiece, the costumer’s hard labour of love and creativity, so I call my book “World Masterpiece Theater”….
