Amidst the swirling mists and masked revelry of Venice's Carnevale, a peculiar chronometer chimed, signaling the materialization of a cohort of Steampunk time travelers. Brass-goggled, velvet-clad, and adorned with the gleaming anachronistic contraptions of their temporal craft, they stepped out of the swirling aether not merely into a different city, but a captivating historical moment. This wasn't just a journey across continents, but across epochs, a meticulously planned itinerary echoing Phileas Fogg's legendary dash, yet traversing history itself. The Venice Carnevale, a timeless stage of anonymity and elaborate masquerade, served as their perfect temporal port of call. Here, among the fantastical costumes and enigmatic figures, their own eccentric attire blended seamlessly, their gears and polished brass just another fascinating detail in the grand, performative tableau. They had traversed industrial London, witnessed the dawn of empires, and skirted the edges of forgotten civilizations, gathering inspiration and curiosities from the four corners of a world far beyond their own, a perpetual "Around the World in 80 Days" that spanned centuries. Each feathered mask and brocaded cloak they observed in Venice held a fragment of the past they had meticulously cataloged, from the crowded bazaars of Marrakesh to the gleaming pagodas of distant Japan, all woven into the very fabric of their time-hopping odyssey.

con i Viaggiatori nel Tempo (with the Time Travelers) is a simple streetside portrait for my Italian friends Zia Vale and Mango Cola at the Venice Carnevale. Inspiration for the photo comes from one of my favourite novels. Around the World in Eighty Days (French: Le Tour du monde en quatre-vingts jours) is an adventure novel by the French writer Jules Verne, first published in French in 1872. In the story, Phileas Fogg of London and his newly employed French valet Passepartout attempt to circumnavigate the world in 80 days on a wager of £20,000 (equivalent to £2.3 million in 2023) set by his friends at the Reform Club. It is one of Verne's most acclaimed works.

As usual, everything done using natural lighting only...
