Maleficent 黑魔女:沉睡魔咒 マレフィセント

In a city where beauty conceals secrets and every mask tells a different story, an ancient enchantress awakens from the shadows.
His name is Maleficent.
Neither wholly villain nor misunderstood heroine, she exists somewhere between darkness and desire, vengeance and vulnerability, power and solitude.
Beyond the glittering masquerades and candlelit palazzos of Venice, in a forgotten chamber where velvet curtains hang heavy with centuries of secrets, the dark enchantress holds court.
Upon his head rise two magnificent black horns, symbols of an authority that neither kings nor kingdoms can command. His face, pale as moonlight, bears an expression of haunting elegance, while his voluminous robes of dark fur evoke the majesty of a fallen sovereign.
In his hands rests a mysterious staff, crowned with an emerald-green orb. Within its depths lies an ancient magic, capable of granting wishes, weaving enchantments and unleashing terrible curses.

Yet Maleficent is more than a creature of darkness.
Behind his commanding gaze lies a story of betrayal, wounded pride and a heart that once knew love. His anger is formidable, his magic feared, but beneath the formidable exterior remains the memory of someone who was once capable of extraordinary tenderness.
He is a reminder that the boundary between good and evil is rarely absolute, and that even the darkest characters may carry within them fragments of beauty, sorrow and humanity.

Created during the Venice Carnevale 2026, Maleficent explores the theatrical grandeur and psychological complexity of one of fantasy’s most captivating characters.
Drawing inspiration from Gothic portraiture, Baroque chiaroscuro and cinematic fantasy, the series transforms elaborate Carnevale costume photography into a collection of dark, atmospheric portraits.
The interplay of warm golden illumination and cold, mist-laden shadows creates an almost painterly atmosphere. Rich textures of fur, weathered stone and antique velvet contrast with the enchantress’s ghostly complexion, while the emerald orb becomes a symbol of temptation, forbidden knowledge and supernatural power.
Across the series, Maleficent reveals different facets of his personality: the proud sovereign, the calculating sorceress, the seductive enchantress and the terrifying embodiment of vengeance.
Each portrait captures a moment suspended between theatrical performance and imagined reality, inviting the viewer into a world where fairy tales are no longer innocent and villains are never quite what they seem.
Against the timeless mystery of Venice, Maleficent becomes more than a familiar figure from folklore.
He becomes an exploration of power, beauty, isolation and the darkness that can dwell within the human soul.
For even in the deepest darkness, there is beauty. And behind every curse, there is a story waiting to be told.

Fabian Cordoba is a local Venetian cosplayer. Maleficent is one of his most popular costumes.
The Venice Carnevale is not solely about masks. Local Italians and an increasing number of foreign costumers now prefer historical and non masked costumes or painted faces and for some even cosplay costumes. During Carnevale, the whole Venice truly becomes a real life theatrical stage...
