Photographing a celebrity....the ever so beautiful Kandy Chen...
Met up with Taiwanese singer Kandy Chen when she was in Melbourne recently. In addition to being a vocalist, Kandy is an accomplished songwriter, pending hits for Tracy Huang 黃鶯鶯 and Michelle Pan 潘越雲. Kandy is best known for her cd in 1992, 華麗的冒險.
華麗的冒險 - Beautiful Adventures is a theme frequented by famous Taiwanese and Japanese singers of the 90s and early 2000s - Cheer Chen 陳綺貞, Shizuoka Inoh 伊能靜, Noriko Sakai 酒井 法子 all did albums around this subject. These are the songs I grew up listening to and this is where the inspiration for much of my travels come from. Yes, I did get to meet 3 out of the 4 ladies I mentioned and am friends with 2 of them. Maybe I'll look them up more often and ask to see if I can photograph them...
華麗的冒險 - Beautiful Adventures - the theme of my travels. The locations are all carefully thought of and planned. They need to be exotic, different and the subjects need to look good. The pictures need to look as if they are part of a movie scene. There needs to be the elements of dreams and fantasy - the kind of thing you want to see in fairy tales, a little sense of rebellion and of course these things are real. There is always magic in everyday life, you just need to look for it...This is my world as I see it, my beautiful adventures...
Each production print is also carefully thought of and printed on quality museum-archive paper. During my trips to Japan, I visit factories to view their paper. I like to use stuff like German Cotton Rag and Japanese Mulberry paper depending on individual pictures. Some of these photos end up in Galleries in London and Rome.
